Eligibility Criteria

  • At least ‘S’ grades for all approved subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Combined Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Higher Mathematics) at G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L)/ Edexcel (UK)/ Cambridge (UK) examination in one sitting AND
  • A simple pass for G.C.E Ordinary Level (O/L) English.

Lateral entry: Candidates who have successfully completed,

  • NVQ* Level 05
  • Diploma in National College of Education (Vidyapeeta) OR
  • Those who have partially completed BSc Science degrees

with relevant subjects can be considered for an exemption of year one or certain course units on approval of  board of study on external degrees in science and Senate.

Scholarships and Faculty Awards

After successful completion of the degree program our students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences are eligible to receive the following medals and awards as a recognition of their outstanding achievements, at the convocation of the university

  • Vice Chancellor’s Award will be awarded to the student with the highest final GPA from each degree program in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
  • Danapala Ratnasekara Memorial Gold Medal for the best performing student of the Science and Technology Degree Programme will be awarded to the student from Science and Technology Degree Program who has equally excelled performances in both academic and other extracurricular activities.
  • Mahinda Katugaha Gold Medal for the Highest Achiever of the Faculty of Applied Sciences will be awarded to the best performing student in academic activities of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
  • Gold Medal for the Highest Achiever from the student population from the entrants from Uva Province will be awarded to the best academically performing students from the Uva Province.
  • Faculty Awards will be awarded to the overall best performing students of each academic programme in the Faculty, at the end of each academic year.

The best five outstanding students of each academic programme shall be selected. A student with a GPA ≥ 3.70 of any degree programme in the Faculty could be admitted to the Dean’s List each semester.
