The Catholic University of West Africa (UCAO) is an International University created by the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (CERAO). It is the largest decentralized private university network in Africa with locations of specific University Units in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Togo. The International Rectorate is based in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). The training is provided by high-ranking teachers working throughout the UCAO network and in the largest universities in Africa and around the world. UCAO is a member of CAMES (African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education) which recognizes its diplomas,
The UCAO aims to be an original response to the need for training with a view to the emergence of a new African man who leaves the beaten track and enters history through the front door, no longer as a victim or an object, but as a subject and actor. UCAO proposes to train this African with a mentality of autonomy and self-care in order to enable him to be able to take charge of himself and build his future. This future will no longer be negotiated in a favor to be sought from spirits, geniuses, marabouts or soothsayers.
With a view to the construction of this African man rid of any complex of ex-colonized or descendant of former slave, the UCAO wants to be the showcase and the expression of a new vision of university training. The university will train more employees but employers. It will no longer train young men and women who are constantly being taught how to write a CV or a cover letter, but how to create and develop their business, how to invent the future, innovate and renovate the daily life and the economic, social and political environment of his country.
