Lae School of Nursing Admission Requirements

  • To get enrolled the student must pay 100% fees.
  • Agency/Corporate/Provincial Government sponsored students must also pay 100% fees.
  • Upon full payment students are given board and lodging, allowed to attend classes/clinical practices.
  • Failure to pay full fees will results in non-registration.
  • The official registration week is one week.
  • Students registering after official registration week will pay K50-00 late registration fee.
  • No student will be registered after the two weeks has lapsed

Lae School of Nursing Scholarship

Lae School of Nursing is offering 2 scholarships. Fist one is Australia Awards Scholarships and the second one is DHERST Scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements for Scholarship Application

  • be a non-school leaver (i.e. have completed Grade 12 prior to 2023)
  • meet the conditions of entry for the institution(s)
  • be a citizen of PNG and residing in PNG at the time of application
  • not have been convicted of a criminal offence
  • not have been terminated from a previous Australia Awards scholarship or expelled by an Institution for misconduct or academic failure
  • demonstrate a commitment to working as a nurse in PNG including in rural and remote health centres
  • have completed Grade 12 with a minimum GPA 2.75 and a minimum grade B in Biology, Chemistry and Language and Literature, grade C in Advanced Math or grade A in General Math; OR
  • have matriculation upgrade (DODL/FODE) minimum GPA 3.0 and minimum subject grades as above.

The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology wishes to advise you that The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) for 2023 Application opens 20th March 2023 and Closes on the 31st October 2023  . Students are advised to comply with institutional registration requirement in order to be eligible to apply for the HELP loan. The department facilitates 4 batches every year. If you do not apply or do not submit your loan application in a batch, you have the flexibility to apply in the subsequent batch.

  • Batch 1: 20th March 2023 – 30th April 2023
  • Batch 2: 1st May 2023 – 30th June 2023 / Batch 3: 1st July 2023 – 31st August 2023
  • Batch 4: 1st September 2023 –31st October, 2023

The last (4 th) batch and the HELP application cycle for this year will be closed as of 31st Oct 2022. DHERST will not accept any application from students who applied and submitted the HELP after this date.

Eligibility criteria for the HELP:

  1. Be a PNG citizen
  2. Be enrolled and registered at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) recognized by DHERST
  3. The study program undertaken by the applicant is accredited by the National Higher and Technical Education Board (NHTEB) or by other authorized body

Requirements to apply for the HELP loan:

  1. Signed HELP Declaration Form
  2. ID Document (Gr 12 certificate, Student ID, PNG NID/birth certificate, , passport, driver’s license)
  3. HELP login credentials to be issued by your Student Data Officer (SDO) at your institution

Note:

  1. If you fully meet the eligibility criteria, enquire for the HELP declaration form from the institution. Fill the form and submit it to your Registrar and/or Student Data Officer with one of the mentioned ID document.
  2. First year students who had NOAS credentials from 2022 and had your enrollment status confirmed by SDO can use the same credentials to apply for HELP. The same also applies to continuing student who previously applied for HELP can use the same credential to reapply for HELP this year.
  3. Unless, you have forgotten your passwords, you may check with your SDO to get a new one.
  4. HELP 2023 timeline will be made available to the HEI through the Registrar’s office during the registration period.
