Ghana Technology University College Admission Requirements
Academic Calendar: Spring semester (January – April); Summer semester (May-August); Fall semester (September-December)
Admission Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes
SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS
Holders of SSSCE/WASSCE with credit passes in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science / Social Studies and three (3) elective subjects relevant to the chosen program with aggregate 24/36 respectively or better. Foreign applicants with WASSCE should include a scratch card which could be used to verify their results.
An applicant applying for admission to a degree program must have at least credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science related programs) or Social Studies (for non-science programs) and three elective subjects.
O-LEVEL / A-LEVEL HOLDERS
O- LEVEL / A – LEVEL holders with credits in at least five (5) subjects at the GCE “O” Level (or its equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least two (2) passes in the relevant subjects at the advanced level. Such applicants are placed at level 200 of a degree program.
GENERAL BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS (GBCE) HOLDERS
Applicant must have credit passes in six (6) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
ADVANCE BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (ABCE) HOLDERS
Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) holders must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including Mathematics and English Language, Integrated Science or Social Studies plus three (3) optional subjects relevant to their program of study. Such applicants are placed at level 200 of a degree program.
MATURE APPLICANTS
Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of application and show proof of age with birth certificate which is at least 5 years old or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth. They will then go through an access course in their area of study after which an examination would be conducted. Successful applicants will then be written to commence their studies.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) / DIPLOMA HOLDERS
Applicants with International Baccalaureate (IB) / Diploma must obtain a distinction, credit or pass as decided by the jury. They should also be proficient in English. This is checked through written exams, verbal interview and certification from a recognized language institution. Their results will also be verified by GHANA TERTIARY EDUCATION COMMISSION (GTEC.) Admission will be conditional subject to evaluation from GTEC.
TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (TVET) AND NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL EXAMINATIONS (NABPTEX) HOLDERS
Applicants with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) will be placed at level 100 in relevant area of study.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE HOLDERS
Applicants with ACCA, ICA, Associate of Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) , Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) plus SSSCE / WASSCE , (five (5) credits at GBCE or GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics)
AMERICA GRADE 12 HOLDERS
Applicants with American grade 12 will be placed at level 100 in a relevant area of study.
INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE AND SECONDARY EDUCATION (IGCSE) ‘O’ AND ‘A’ LEVEL HOLDERS
Applicants must have three relevant subjects at the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels. In addition, they must have at least five (5) passes including English Language and Mathematics at the Cambridge ‘O’ Level. Such applicants will be placed at level 200
CITY & GUILDS TECHNICIAN DIPLOMA / ADVANCED DIPLOMA
City & Guilds Technician Diploma / Advanced Diploma in relevant area of study will be placed at level 200.
HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND)
Applicants must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e. at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2- year post – HND work experience.
UNIVERSITY DIPLOMA HOLDERS
Holders of University Diploma with GPA score of 2.5 and above will be placed at level 300 in relevant area of study and GPA score from 2.0 to 2.49 will be placed at level 200 in relevant area of study.
Minimum Admission Requirement for Diploma Programs
WASSCE applicants must have passes (i.e., A1-D7) in three core subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies in addition to passes (i.e., A1-D7) in any three elective subjects. Note that at least three (3) of the core and three (3) of the elective courses should be credit passes (A1-C6). A credit pass is required for the relevant elective.
SSSCE/GBCE applicants must have grades “A-D” in both their core and elective subjects. This includes English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science/Social Studies and any three elective subjects which are relevant to the applicant’s area of study.

Admission Requirements for Graduate Programmes
- A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D Program should have obtained at the least a Merit in Master’s Degree in the subject area of research he/she intends to pursue.
- In addition, the candidate will also be required to secure the minimum, stipulated score in an interview that may be specified by the Research and Innovation Council (RIC) of the University.
- Applicants possessing a Master’s degree in a field of study not directly related to the programme may be required to take additional preparatory courses

Ghana Technology University College Scholarship
Purpose of the Scholarship Policy
The purpose of the Ghana Communication Technology University Scholarship Awards Policy is to provide consistent guidelines to the University community for the awarding of the scholarships. Through the effective application of these guidelines, the numbers of students receiving University-wide awards will be increased.
Scholarship funds awarded through this scheme will be limited to the costs of tuition, University fees (excluding Orientation Fee) and in selected cases, books.
Students who reside on campus and are awarded a scholarship through the Scholarship Office Secretariat to include room cost will receive funding to cover the actual on-campus room costs unless the letter of award indicates differently. Students who reside off campus will only be awarded scholarships to cover their tuition fees, University fees and the cost of books.
Scholarship Committee
The President will nominate members of staff and appoint them to the Scholarship committee. The main functions of the committee will be as follows
- Review of all applications for the scholarship scheme,
- Recommend to the President of the University, of the most qualified students to be selected for the award of the scholarship.
- Ensure that the selection of applicants are done in an ethical manner stressing merit and need basis,
- Review of the performance of the successful applicants.
- Review and cancellation of scholarships awarded to students.
Rules and Regulations Governing the Issuance of Scholarships.
- The scholarship office reserves the right to review or cancel awards due to changes in financial standing, academic or program status.
- All scholarship students must be in good standing with the office of judicial and ethical programs, such as the disciplinary committees etc.
- All awards are tentative subject to legislative or statutory appropriation, final verification of academic records and acceptance to GCTU.
- Full-time enrollment in a regular diploma, top up, degree and post graduate program is required
- For Undergraduate students, scholarship applicant must enter the institution with a grade of at most;
- An Aggregate of 9 – for SSCE candidates applying for degree programmes,
- An Aggregate of 10 – for WASSCE candidates applying for degree programmes,
- An Aggregate of 12 – for students wishing to enroll in Diploma programmes,
- A Distinction for Diploma students wishing to be enrolled for top-up degree programmes.
- For Continuing Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, the requirement is that the student should have had a First Class Cumulative or a Weighted Average (CWA) of 70.00 and over in their undergraduate course, to be considered for a scholarship. Candidate should be seen to have had an “A” in their thesis in the Undergraduate programmes.
- For Undergraduate students, scholarship applicant must enter the institution with a grade of at most;
- Completion of all assigned and registered credit hours in the chosen programme is essential if the renewal or re-application of the scholarship is to be sought
- Scholarship recipients must maintain the required cumulative weighted average (CWA). Grades are subject to review on a semester by semester basis. For undergraduate programmes, any scholarship recipient who earns a CWA of less than 70.00 means that the candidate forfeits the scholarship. For University of Coventry programmes, students whose grades fall below an “A” – that is CWA of 70.00 to 74.00 automatically forfeits the scholarship scheme.
- Appeal of scholarship termination might be permitted in certain cases. These cases include those for whom the drop in grade points might have been caused by certain extenuating circumstances for instance the occurrence of an illness which prevented the student in question to take an exam. In all such cases, documentation and the appropriate certification will be sought. The scholarship committee reserves a discretionary right in all such cases.
- Students receiving scholarship awards who withdraw from the university must notify the scholarship secretariat or office.
