Francisk Skorina Gomel State University

The official date of the creation of the Gomel State Pedagogical Institute is the decision of the Council of People’s Commissars and the Economic Conference of the BSSR of June 21, 1930 . Two departments were organized in the Pedagogical Institute: Physics and Mathematics and Chemistry and Biology. In 1935, the Faculty of Literature and Language was opened. On March 5, 1939, the university was named after V.P. Chkalov. In 1940, the first educational building was built.

On May 1, 1969, on the basis of the Pedagogical Institute, the Gomel State University was opened as part of the historical and philological, mechanical and mathematical, physical, biological and soil, physical education, geological, and economic faculties. The first rector was a physicist, academician V.A. White. In August 1973, the well-known physicist, academician, participant of the Great Patriotic War B.V. Bokut.

How to enter (for visa countries)

An invitation is required to obtain a study visa:

To receive an invitation to study in the Republic of Belarus must be submitted for consideration (by mail: 246019, Gomel, Sovetskaya str., 98 or e-mail interaffairs*gsu.by in the Department of international relations the following documents:

Application addressed to the rector with statement of request (indication of faculty and specialty) and personal signature, address and telephone number.

The copy of the document on education (certificate) with indication of the studied subjects and the marks (points) received on them on examinations with the translation into Russian or English certified by the notary.

A copy of the passport or any other identity document with a translation into Russian or English language, notarized.

For minors: power of attorney from parents for the right to enter into a contract of study and a contract of employment for accommodation in a hostel certified by a notary by a minor son or daughter.

The invitation is issued for at least two weeks.

Terms of admission of foreign citizens:

for 1 course-established annually by the relevant decree of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Belarus.

the preparatory Department-all year round.

Having received a visa, you arrive in Belarus by plane or train. If by plane, from the Airport you can take a bus or taxi (about 50 kilometers) to the railway station in Minsk. From Minsk to Gomel by train. After providing all the documents, a foreign citizen must:

get a passport; pass an interview in Russian; pass medical examination; sign a contract for training.

According to the results of the interview, medical examination and signing of the contract for training, a foreign citizen is enrolled in the University by the rector’s ORDER.

If a foreign citizen does not pass an interview in Russian, he can be enrolled in the preparatory Department for a period of 1 academic year.

How to enter (for visa-free countries)

Document language

All documents executed in a foreign language shall be accompanied by their translation into Russian. Translation of all documents must be notarized.
