Kenyatta University Admission Requirements

Academic Calendar: Spring semester (January – April); Summer semester (May-August); Fall semester (September-December)

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

  • In addition to meeting the University entrance requirements of overall C+ at KCSE or equivalent, candidates for admission to the B. Sc. Agribusiness Management programme are required to have obtained a minimum of C+ in Mathematics and in two of the following combinations: Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture or Geography, and Economics or Business Studies and Physical Science. ii) Grade C in KCSE or its equivalent and two-year (minimum) Diploma with a credit in Agriculture, commerce, Accounting, Economics, farm management, Agribusiness or any other discipline from an Institution recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
  • A minimum of grade C+ in KCSE with at least C+ in Biology or Biological Sciences and any one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or Physical Sciences.
  • Two principals and one Subsidiary pass at KACE level or equivalent, one of which must be in biology and in any other science subject.
  • A minimum of C plain in KCSE and at least a Credit Pass Diploma in Animal Health/ Agriculture/ Medical Laboratory Technology /Animal production from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
  • A minimum of C- in KCSE with at least a credit pass in both Certificate and Diploma Animal Health/ Agriculture/ Medical Laboratory Technology from an institution approved by University Senate. (v) A degree in a Biological Science from institutions recognized by the University Senate.
  • Any other qualifications equivalent to the above from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
  • Mean, grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+(Plus) or equivalent in Mathematics and Physics OR Mean grade C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in either electronics and electrical engineering or telecommunications with a credit pass from a recognized institution. In addition, applicants must have obtained minimum of Grade C (Plain) in Mathematics and Physics.

Masters Admission Requirements

  • The general regulations of masters degree in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences shall apply. a. A holder of a Bachelor of Science degree with at least an upper 2nd class honours with Zoology or Botany as a single subject or as one of the two (2) science subjects. b. A holder of a Bachelor of Education degree who has studied Zoology or Botany to degree level and has attained an upper 2nd class honour degree. Those in Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have? Cand above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.
  • Bachelors Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in Engineering, Hydrology, and related disciplines, Natural Sciences or Social and Human Sciences from a recognized university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have Grade “C” and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.

Doctorate (PhD) Admission Requirements

  • An applicant must be a holder of a masters degree in English and Linguistics with a mean score of B aggregate (at least 60%) or equivalent qualifications from any University recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
  • The common university regulations for PhD degree shall apply ii. The general regulations for PhD degree in the School of Medicine shall apply. In addition, the following shall be eligible for admission for the PhD degree in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science: a. A holder of MSc. in Medical Laboratory Science b. A holder of an equivalent MSc.
  •  The following shall apply
    • (a) A Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics or related BSC from Kenyatta University or any other recognized university.
    • (b) A holder of a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Master in Human Nutrition, Master in Community Nutrition, Master of Public Health Nutrition and MSc in Food Science and Technology or any other related field from Kenyatta University or any other recognized University.
    • (c) In addition that the Masters degree will have been done through course work and thesis, and the applicant passed in all course work units assessed.
