The operative part of the agreement stated the following: “FIRST: Authorize the foundation of the University of San Pedro Sula, domiciled in the city of San Pedro Sula, department of Cortés, which will be governed by the provisions contained in the Law of Universities Private, in its Statutes and Regulations. SECOND: Approve as the date of initiation of academic work, the first of February of the year one thousand nine hundred and seventy-eight.»
The promoters of this initiative were a group of representative people from the business, professional and cultural sectors of San Pedro Sula, who were very interested in offering new alternatives and opportunities for professional training at a higher level to the youth and other segments of the population, eager to achieve new goals of personal development in an environment of freedom, democracy and respect for human dignity.
Initially, 2 careers were offered: Business Administration and Law. In the following years, others were opened: Agriculture, Journalism (now called Communication Sciences and Advertising), Banking Administration, Architecture, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science (now called Administrative Informatics) and Marketing, until totaling 16 careers ( 12 bachelor’s degrees and 4 technicians) that are currently taught.
Some twelve professionals from various disciplines began as professors at the University in their first year of activities.
