Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave
The beginnings of higher technical education in Slovakia date back to 1762, when the Banská Academy was founded in Banská Štiavnica. Its foundation also became an important landmark in the history of European higher technical education, because it was the Banská Academy in Banská Štiavnica where technical sciences were taught in a university manner for the first time. With its high professional level during its more than one hundred and fifty years of activity, it has created rich traditions for technical education in Slovakia.
The result of long-term efforts to establish the first polytechnic in Slovakia, lasting almost two decades, was its enactment. On June 25, 1937 , Act No. 170 Coll. and n. adopted by the National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Republic, which established the Technical University of Dr. MR Štefánik.
In the first stage, the school was constituted with three departments and the department of structural and transport engineering, the department of water and cultural engineering and the department of surveying engineering. Other branches and departments were to be opened gradually as needed. Even though the school was not set up with all technical fields right from the start, it was still an important act in the cultural and social history of Slovakia.
The opening of the first school year took place on December 5, 1938 in the temporary school headquarters in Martin, where the school was quickly moved after the Munich Agreement and the Vienna Arbitration, when the southern parts of Slovakia, including the city of Košice, were annexed to Hungary.
The school moved to its current seat in Bratislava in 1939 under the new name Slovak Technical University , which was given to it while it was working in Martin in February 1939. Law no. 188 Sl. from. dated July 25, 1939 gave the school the legal basis for its complete construction. Instead of three departments, he established a school with six departments (the current name of the faculties) with twelve departments.
