Qatar University Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements:

  • Writing Supplement Essay
    • The Writing Supplement Essay will give us a sense of who you are as a person, beyond your grades and test scores. The statement also demonstrates your ability to organize thoughts and express yourself.
    • Please note that while the Writing Supplement Essay is required, there is also an essay in the common part of the Common Application. This essay is optional for applicants to CMU-Q.
  • Official and complete academic transcripts
    • Transcripts from all secondary schools attended, including all courses taken for grades 10, 11, and 12
    • Official standardized test results, such as British IGCSE’s, AS, and A-Levels, Indian Standard X and XII board exam results
    • Predicted grades if available
    • Transfer applicants should include official transcripts from their current university
  • Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo results

      • CMU-Q accepts both the TOEFL iBT and the new TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. Please follow the links for further information on test dates and locations.

      • You can also register for a test directly with the British Council office in your country. In Qatar, the British Council office in Doha can be contacted on 800 5501.
  • Letters of recommendation
    • One letter of recommendation from a college counselor, principal, or academic advisor is required.
    • Additionally, one letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor is required.
  • Passport and biographical information
    • A copy of your passport must be uploaded to our Passport and Biographical Page.  This requirement can only be submitted electronically through the page, as paper copies will not be accepted through regular mail or at the Office of Admission.
  • Official SAT or ACT results (optional)
    • SAT – Use code 4246 for official SAT score reports to be sent to Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
    • ACT – Please see the ACT website for information on test dates and locations.Use code 5269 for official ACT score reports to be sent to Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
  • Interview (optional)
    • Regular Decision: Interviews occur in January on-campus. As slots in January are limited, we operate an interview waiting list system beginning in January. If you would like to be considered for a January interview, please submit the form (see link below).
    • PLEASE NOTE: this form is only to be completed if you are residing in Qatar. If you are not residing in Qatar, please do NOT submit this form, as we regret that we are not able to accommodate interview requests from students who are not residing in Qatar
  • Application fee
    • A non-refundable $70 USD application fee must be paid online through credit card upon completion of the Common Application.  If needed, a fee waiver can be requested inside the Common App.

Qatar University Admission for International Students

  2. Student’s passport copy, valid minimum for one year; need the page/s that have students name, Date of Birth, and Passport expiry date.
  3. Financial Sponsorship Declaration to bear the costs of studying at the university. The financial sponsor must be a third party; the students are not allowed to sponsor themselves.
  4. Copy of the passport / Qatar ID card of the financial sponsor
  5. Financial supporting documents: These documents should reflect the financial capacity of the sponsor to bear the financial expenses (study, living, etc.) of the student during their study at the university:
    • If the financial sponsor lives in Qatar, the applicant must submit a ‘Bank Guarantee’ issued by a local bank in Qatar in favor of Qatar University, with the amount of 20,000 QR (Qatari Riyals) or $5,470. The guarantee should be valid for five years for Undergraduate and PhD applicants, three years for Masters applicants, and one year for ANNS applicants
    • If the financial sponsor is from outside Qatar, The applicant must submit the bank account statement of the financial sponsor for the six months prior to the submission of the visa request. The bank account statement must be in either English or Arabic languages only and reflecting the stable financial capacity of the sponsor to bear the financial expenses (study, living, etc.) of the student during their study at the university:
  6. Health Evaluation: This form should be signed by a medical physician and stamped by the Medical Clinic/Hospital in the student’s country of residence. This Health Evaluation form is acceptable ONLY from applicants outside Qatar who are applying for the student visa from QU
  7. Certificate of ‘Good Conduct’ (police clearance certificate) issued by the authorities in the student’s country of residence.
  8. Consent letter from the student’s parent or guardian to enroll in the university and obtain a residence permit under QU residence sponsorship. (for Undergraduate students ONLY)
  9. Complete the “Student Declaration Form”.

Qatar University Scholarship Requirements

Qatar Foundation’s Merit Scholarship program awards a limited number of Merit Scholarships annually to students who have spent at least two semesters in one of the Education City’s branch campuses. Students who have achieved a 3.6 GPA or above during their studies in Education City are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
