About the university:

International State Ecological Institute. HELL. Sakharova Belarusian State University today

In 2015, the university was renamed into the “International State Ecological Institute named after A.D. Sakharov” and included in the complex of the Belarusian State University.

Currently, the educational process at the institute is carried out at three faculties: environmental monitoring, environmental medicine, advanced training and retraining, as well as at a joint faculty at the Tajik National University (Republic of Tajikistan, Dushanbe).

There are 13 departments at the institute, as well as the UNESCO Chair on Radiation and Environmental Management, 216 teachers (13 professors, 23 doctors of science, 82 candidates of science, 73 associate professors) work. More than 1500 students, 205 undergraduate, 33 postgraduate study. Including 254 foreign citizens from 16 countries of the world are studying.

Specialties:

“Medical and biological business”

Qualification – “Biologist-analyst. Biology teacher.

Students study:  biological (in-depth) and medical sciences; modern methods and means of laboratory diagnostics used to assess the functional state of the body.

Acquires skills in bioanalytical work in order to conduct biochemical, immunological and other analyzes and studies of biological samples for medical purposes and decipher them.

Graduates of this specialty are ready to work in the laboratories of medical, educational and scientific institutions.

“Medical ecology”

Qualification – “Ecologist-expert”.

Students study:  ecology and environmental standards, biological and medical sciences; the impact of environmental factors on humans.

They acquire skills in working with regulatory documents, skills in working with modern equipment in order to conduct chemical, physical, microbiological and other analyzes and studies.

Graduates of this specialty are ready to work in the laboratories of the Centers for Hygiene and Epidemiology, as well as other institutions and enterprises that are engaged in determining the level and nature of the impact of environmental factors on the population.

In the process of studying at the faculty, students have an additional opportunity on a paid basis to simultaneously receive a second specialty at foreign partner universities:

Medical Biology (Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland).

Cosmetology (Vincent Pohl University in Lublin (Poland).

Students who have successfully completed both educational programs receive two diplomas: from the Republic of Belarus and from the European Union.

Students acquire the skills to: ensure nuclear and radiation safety of personnel and the public; accounting and control of nuclear materials at nuclear power plants and in their sanitary protection zones; safe use of sources of ionizing radiation; individual dosimetry control and control of the radiation situation during radiation hazardous work.

Graduates of this specialty are ready to work in organizations of the Ministry of Energy; at enterprises, BelNPP using sources of ionizing radiation; National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

“Information systems and technologies (in healthcare)”

Qualification “Programmer engineer”

Students study:  operating systems and databases; object-oriented programming; systems and technologies of intelligent data processing.

Students acquire skills:  design and development of software for information processing systems; adaptation and implementation of software systems and technologies in ecology/health; adjustment, diagnostics and repair of hardware and software; operation and configuration of information security systems.

Medical Physics

Qualification “Medical Physicist”

Students study:  physics (in depth – optics, atomic and nuclear physics); biological and medical physics; fundamentals of medicine; physical methods of diagnostics and treatment used in medicine (including nuclear medicine);

Students acquire skills in working with special equipment used mainly in oncology and medical radiology for diagnostic and treatment purposes.

The medical physicist prepares the appropriate equipment, treatment procedure or study. In radiotherapy, he calculates an individual safe dose and irradiates patients. It is responsible for the safe use of ionizing radiation for medical purposes.

Students study:  industrial ecology and rational use of natural resources; examination of ecological and economic systems, processing, neutralization and disposal of production waste.

Students acquire skills:  environmental impact assessment; designing standard measures for nature protection; carrying out ecological expertise of various types of project analysis; environmental audit, etc.

Graduates of this specialty are ready to work in organizations of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, enterprises of industry, transport and communications, housing and communal services, and research centers.

“Energy efficient technologies and energy management”

Qualification “Engineer-energy manager”

Students study:  technologies and devices for converting various types of energy; power supply systems of enterprises, buildings and structures; methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of the use of renewable energy sources.

Students acquire skills:  development and implementation of energy efficient technologies in various sectors of the national economy; conducting systemic energy analysis of enterprises; control and accounting of consumption of fuel and energy resources and control over their efficient use.

Graduates of this specialty are ready to work in the energy departments and services of various enterprises and organizations in industry, forestry, transport, construction, research centers, etc.

Faculty of advanced training and retraining

The department provides training in three main areas:

Preparatory courses for graduates and students of schools and gymnasiums of the Republic of Belarus (preparation for entrance examinations in the form of centralized testing).

Preparatory department for foreign citizens (comprehensive study of subjects required for admission to the Higher Educational Institution).

Advanced training and retraining of managers and specialists.

In addition, staff members of the department provide teaching on training courses and (upon request) individual lessons with students.

THE BSU ADMISSION REGULATIONS

In accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus in education


1. Citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, as well as citizens of Ukraine permanently who reside in the territory of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions*, have the right to enter the first stage of higher education at BSU under the conditions provided for:

Citizens of Ukraine who permanently reside on the Luhansk and Donetsk regions can enter the BSU for state-funded places left vacant after the end of the Belarusian admission campaign
 

  • foreign citizens and stateless persons, i.e. on the terms of payment provided for foreign citizens, based on the results of an interview establishing their level of proficiency of the language of the educational process to the extent sufficient for mastering the content of the educational programme of higher education

2. Other foreign citizens and stateless persons not reside on the territory of the Republic of Belarus can enter the university for higher education:

  • on a fee-paying basis – according to the results of an interview establishing the level of proficiency of the language of the educational process to the extent sufficient for mastering the content of the educational programme of higher education
  • on a fee-paying basis – according to the results of the final certification on mastering the content of the educational programme of preparation for institutes of higher education entrance (after the preparatory department)
  • in accordance with the terms of international agreements and competitions of the Republic of Belarus

  • Sufficient level of previous education (complete secondary education, completed higher education (4-5 years) or Master’s Degree, depending on where the applicant enters).  
  • Sufficient proficiency in Russian (for Russian-language programmes) or English (for English-language programmes), verified during the interview.
