Georgetown American University (GAU) is an established University in The Republic of Guyana. It was founded in November 2013 by Guyanese nationals.
2014
Registration
Georgetown American University was registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana. The first batch of students were enrolled in June 2014 for premedical sciences and Doctor of Medicine program.
2015
USA operations
Georgetown American University established its USA operations in 2015. The US office was commissioned in the state of Maryland. The university also signed a memorandum of understanding with Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn to facilitate clinical clerkship in the USA.
2016
“Ameriandians can be doctors”
Georgetown American University started its project “Ameriandians can be doctors” enrolling 17 Indigenous students into the Premedical Sciences Program.
2018
First cohort of Medical Doctors
The first cohort of Medical Doctors graduated from the University. The university also became the official training site in Guyana for the American Heart Association (AHA) with a portfolio of Heartsaver and Basic Life Support courses.
2019
ISO Certification
The university gained ISO 9001:2015 certification.
2021
New Departments
Georgetown American University extended its clinical sciences training in the US through the signing of MOU with Eastside Medical Hospital. Also, three new departments were added to the University portfolio, School of Nursing, Technology and Energy.
