Florida State University has been in Panama since 1957 and is the second oldest university in the country. Its campus is located in the City of Knowledge, a unique environment of academic and research institutions located between the Panama Canal and the Camino de Cruces National Park – a rainforest of incredible beauty and one of the most biologically diverse on the planet.

FRESHMAN APPLICANTS

Official transcripts of the last four years of high school.

If the original transcripts are issued in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by an official English translation.

Applicants who take the IBT (Internet Based TOEFL) need to send their scores directly to FSU (code 5203). All other exams should be sent directly to Florida State University Admissions office through the testing platform, and a PDF score report should be added to their application.

Citizens of countries where the official language is English are exempt from taking an English Language Proficiency but must attach a copy of their passport to their application. Please note that all admitted students will take an English Placement exam during orientation before registering for any English composition classes. The English Placement exam does not replace the English Language Proficiency requirement for admission purposes.

Official SAT or ACT scores

Applicants who have not taken the SAT or ACT at the time of their application may enroll at the Florida State University campus in the Republic of Panama, but must take either one of these exams during their first or second semester of enrollment.

Applicants who have taken either the SAT or ACT at the time of their application must request their test scores to be sent directly to FSU (SAT code is 5219 and ACT is 0734).

Pay a $100 application fee (can be paid online).

TRANSFER APPLICANTS

In addition to the freshman admission requirements specified above, transfer applicants must submit the following documents:

Official transcripts from each college and/or university attended (if in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by a certified English translation).

Official course-by-course evaluation of all academic records from each non-U.S. college and/or university attended (no transfer credit from non-U.S. universities will be awarded unless an evaluation has been submitted). We recommend using any of the evaluating agencies listed in www.naces.org.

Letters of recommendation are not required and will not be taken into consideration in the evaluation process.

U.S. citizens

If you are a U.S. citizens please contact the office of International Programs (www.international.fsu.edu) unless one of the following exceptions applies:

You have lived in Panama for a minimum of twelve consecutive months prior to your application.

You are citizens or a legal resident of the Republic of Panama.

You have close family members (i.e. spouse, parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle) who are citizens or legal residents of the Republic of Panama who are currently living in Panama.

You are non-traditional students and/or you will be 26 years or older at the beginning of the term for which you are seeking admission.

You area military dependents as determined by the Office of Veteran Affairs at Florida State University.

Admission Requirements & Procedures for our Masters Program

Master’s Requirements for non U.S. citizens

General FSU Admission Requirements for Graduate School:

An earned Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution, with a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) on all work attempted while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor’s degree; or

A graduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution; and

Test scores from a nationally standardized graduate admission test which is acceptable for the program to which the applicant is applying; and

An English proficiency exam for those applicants whose native language is not English.

Departmental Requirements

An upper- division cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0). and

GRE taken August 2011 or later—150 in both the Verbal and Quantitative portions (50th percentile or higher) and a 4 or greater in the analytical portion. GRE taken July 2011 or earlier—100 on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the general aptitude portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). (The department accepts GRE scores no more than 7 years old). Also accepted are the equivalent results on the MCAT, LSAT, or GMAT

A minimum of 80 on the TOEFL (internet-based) if not a native speaker of English. Students who are not native speakers of English but have completed their Bachelor’s degree at FSU Panama or FSU Tallahassee will not need to take the TOEFL.

Master’s Requirements for U.S. citizens
