Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka – Anuradhapura

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka is situated in a location which surrounds Sri Maha Bodhi Tree, Swarnamali Stupa in Eight Sacred Places (Atamastana) and ancient Mihintale that was established with the Buddhist culture by Ven. Arahant Maha Mahinda Thero who introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka.

Having started by the name Buddhasravaka Dharma Peethaya in the year 1969, this great educational institution was renamed as Buddhasravaka Bhiksu University in the year 1996 and Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka in the year 2012 but the objective of the first University Act remains unchanged. The administrative structure of the University consists of the Supreme Council, the Council and the Senate and the Faculty Boards for administering academic matters.

The Criteria in Selecting Subjects for the Degree Courses

Every student who is enrolled at this University must select Buddhist Philosophy in the first year. Apart from the compulsory Buddhist Philosophy, the student is free to select any two other subjects. However, if he was enrolled with a precondition to pursue a certain subject, he should follow that subject either as a Special Degree or a General Degree subject during the course of his academic life at the University.

Out of these subjects, only Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Civilization, Pali, Archaeology and Sanskrit can be pursued as Special Degree subjects. Practical Buddhist Studies, Heritage Management, Education Science, Sinhala, English are available as General Degree subjects. Buddhist Monk and Contemporary Social Understanding, Meditation and Buddhist Counseling, Logic and Scientific Method, Writing Skills (Sinhala / English) are foundation courses while Foundation Course in Information Technology and Compulsory English are subjects without Credits.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION DIVISION

Scope of the Division

“The Administration Division provides the essential services–people, facilities, and management–that support the living, learning, and working experiences for the university community.”

The General Administration Division is responsible for matters relating to the rehabilitation works, maintenance of equipment, providing services to the staff and students, communication facilities, Cleaning and Landscaping and other activities which are arising at that time.

“Academic and Student Services Division of the university is responsible for all the academic and students services activities of the faculties”

The following works are handling by this division.

  • 1.Enrolling Students to the University.
  • 2.All activities related to students affairs.
    • – Providing accommodation facilities for students
    • – Payment of bursaries and Mahapola Scholarships
    • – Conducting students’ elections
    • – Assisting various cultural, religious and other extracurricular activities
  • 3.Conducting Faculty Boards and meetings
  • 4.Coordinating Academic Staff and Non-academic staff of the faculties
  • 5.Maintaining and organizing the faculty lecture halls and premises
  • 6.Preparation of faculty academic calendar
  • 7.Assisting to Deans of the faculties in order to smooth functioning of the academic activities
  • 8. Providing secretarial assistance to the Senate Sub-Committees such as the University Research Committee.
  • 9. Assisting to the Research Management Committee.
  • 10. Assisting to the Syllabus Development and Management Committee.

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka Examination Branch

Scope of the Division

“Examination division of the university is responsible for all the Examination work pertaining to Internal and external degree.”

The following works are handling by this division.

  • 1. Register all internal students in order to conduct examinations and maintaining records.
  • 2. Filling and maintaining worksheets, answer scripts in formal manner
  • 3. Preparation of examination time tables and display at the Students’ Notice Board.
  • 4. Arrange all facilities to conduct examinations.
  • 5. Collect all the answer scripts from supervisors, handover them to 1st and 2nd marking and releasing results within 03 months.
  • 6. Convene examination violations offence board.
  • 7. Works pertaining to convocation of the university.
  • 8. Issuing all the certificates related to the examinations for internal and external students.

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka Establishment Division

Scope of the Division

Establishments division provides the essential services related all the Human Resource Management activities in the University.

The Establishments Division of the university is responsible for Recruitment, Promotion, training and all the activities pertaining to Academic and Non- Academic establishments. The following works are handling by this division.

  • 1. Updating cadres of academic and non-academic staff, and forward to Ministry of Higher Education.
  • 2. Recruitment, Confirmation, Promotion, training, retirement and other Human Resources development activities of the academic and non-academic staff.
  • 3. Salary and wages administration.
  • 4. To attend the Court Cases, attending departments if necessary to represent the University.
  • 5. Performance appraisal review and processing.
  • 6. Personnel data entry and maintenance of all the relevant records .
  • 7. Implementing organizational policies.

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka Student Service

The student service section deals with all the affairs such as the student registration, student hostel facilities, canteen facilities, Mahapola scholarships, bursaries, other scholarships, student societies, subject related academic associations, student councils and associations etc.

Student Hostels

The student hostels of this University are located at the Bhiksu University Avenue and at the Nandana Mawatha premises.

All the students who apply for hostel facilities should pay the dues and the receipt should be produced to the hostel Sub Warden and they should obey the following hostel rules and regulations. Residing at the hostels without paying dues is considered an illegal act.Hostel Administration
