About the university:

Minsk State Pedagogical University (first name – Minsk teachers institute) admitted his first students in 1914.  For a long period the institution was reorganized into a pedagogical department of Belarusian State University. After being a part of another university for ten years the Decree of the Ministry of People’s Commissars of the BSSR proclaimed the Pedagogical Department of Belarusian State University an independent Belarusian State Pedagogical higher institution named after the Soviet author Maxim Gorky in 1936.

In 1993 after Belarus achieved its independence and in frames of the policy of the development of sovereign educational system the institute got a status of the University. Two years later the University was renamed after the Belarusian Soviet poet Maksim Tank. Since 2007 the University is a member of the Eurasian Association of Universities

HIGHER EDUCATION BSPU

Higher education is the level of basic education aimed at developing the student’s personality of his intellectual and creative abilities, receiving special theoretical and practical training, culminating in the qualification of a specialist with higher education, a master’s degree.

Education of students in a higher education institution is organized in full-time and part-time (including distance learning) forms of education. The terms of training depend on the complexity of the educational program and the form of training.

FIRST STAGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

BSPU implements educational programs of higher education of the 1st stage , providing the qualification of a specialist with higher education in 31 specialties (direction of specialty) and educational programs of higher education of the 1st stage , providing the qualification of a specialist with higher education integrated with educational programs of secondary specialized education in 6 specialties ( areas of specialization) .

The term of study at this stage in the full-time (full-time) form of education is 4 years; when receiving education in correspondence form, the period is increased by 1 year.

SECOND STAGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Knowledge assessment system – a system for assessing the quality of mastering educational programs by students, an important element of the educational process. Since 2002, a ten-point system for assessing learning outcomes has been introduced in higher education institutions of the Republic of Belarus.

MASTER’S DEGREE

     Master ‘s degree   is the second stage of higher education, which forms the knowledge, skills and abilities of scientific, pedagogical and research work, providing in-depth training of a specialist with the award of a master’s degree.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES (from Latin aspirants – striving) is the first stage of postgraduate education, aimed at training specialists with the skills to plan and independently conduct scientific research, deep theoretical knowledge, allowing them to prepare a qualifying scientific work (dissertation) for the degree of Candidate of Sciences. At the first stage of postgraduate education, an educational program of postgraduate studies (adjuncture) is implemented, which provides the scientific qualification “Researcher”.

DOCTORATE is the second stage of postgraduate education, aimed at training specialists with the skills to organize research work in a new direction of scientific research or in the development of existing relevant areas of scientific research, analytical generalization of the results of scientific activity, allowing to prepare a qualifying scientific work (dissertation) for the competition of a scientist. doctorate degrees. At the second stage of postgraduate education, an educational program of doctoral studies is being implemented.

The enrolment without entry examinations for:

winners (diplomas of I, II, III degrees) of international contests (according to the list approved by the Ministry of Education) and republican contest on school subjects held by the Ministry of Education in the school year which finished in the year of enrolment (further – academic year), for entering the specializations with this subject defined as the subject of the profile examination;

winners (diplomas of I, II, III degrees) of international contests (according to the list approved by the Ministry of Education) and republican contests on chemistry and biology held in the academic year for entering the medical specializations;

winners (diplomas of I, II, III degrees) of international contests (according to the list approved by the Ministry of Education) and republican contests on informatics and astronomy held in the academic year for entering the physical, mathematical and technic-technological specializations;

winners (Grand Prix, diplomas of I, II, III degrees) of international contests (according to the list approved by the Ministry of Education) and republican creative contests and festivals, contests on the subjects of culture and art held by the Ministry of Education in the academic year according to the regulations approved by the Ministry of Culture and coordinated with the Ministry of Education, for entering the respective specializations of culture and art;

winners, prize winners and participants (sportsmen) of Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic Games, the winners, and prize winners of Youth Olympic Games for entering the specializations of physical culture and sports;

winners and prize winners of championships, final cups, world and European championships, Olympic festivals of European youth on the kinds of sports included in the list of sport competitions on the kinds of sports approved by the Ministry of Sports and coordinated with the Ministry of Education, for entering the specializations of physical culture and sports;

winners of official championships of the Republic of Belarus on the kinds of sports included in the programme of summer and winter Olympic Games in the year before enrolment and in the year of enrolment for entering the specializations of physical culture and sports;

winners and prize winners of the world and European championships among visually handicapped people and (or) people with locomotory disorders, the winners and prize winners of the world and European championships among deaf people on the kinds of sports included in the list of sport competitions on the kinds of sports approved by the Ministry of Sports and coordinated with the Ministry of Education, for entering the specializations of physical culture and sports;

the persons awarded during the last two years (at the moment of getting secondary and secondary special education) with the badges “” for creative achievements in the sphere of culture and art corresponding to the chosen specialization, high achievements in certain subject fields corresponding to the chosen profile (direction) of education;

winners (diplomas of I, II, III degrees) of the third (regional, Minsk city) stage of republican contest on school subjects held by the Ministry of Education in the academic year, who had the given subject defined as the subject of the first profile examination, as well as the persons awarded with the golden, silver medal or who have finished secondary special education establishments with honours degree, given the recommendation of the pedagogical council of the education establishment they have finished, for entering pedagogical specializations, the list of which is set by the Ministry of Education;

foreign citizens and persons with no citizenship, entering according to the international treaties of the Republic of Belarus, including interagency treaties.

Hors concours, having the grades of the entry examinations not less than 6 (six) points in the certificate / diploma, the following people can be enrolled:

orphans and children without care of parents, as well as persons among orphans and children without care of parents, for entering all specializations in the number of to 30% of check digits of enrolment;

prize winners of official championships, winners and prize winners of cups, of championships of the Republic of Belarus on the kinds of sports included in the programme of summer and winter Olympic Games, as well as winners of official championships, cups of the Republic of Belarus on other kinds of sports included in the Unified Sports Classification of the Republic of Belarus, held according to the republican schedule of holding the official sports competitions, approved by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and included in the list of sports competitions on the kinds of sports, approved by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and coordinated with the Ministry of Education, for entering the specializations of physical culture and sports;

graduates of secondary schools – colleges of Olympic reserve, who have got the secondary special education at the expense of budget in the year of enrolment, for entering the specializations of physical culture and sports.

HIGHER EDUCATION

Entry Requirements for International Students

Foreign citizens and stateless persons can enter the institution of higher education to get higher education:

– at the expense of budgetary funds or on a paid basis – in accordance with international treaties of the Republic of Belarus;

– on a paid basis – according to the results of the final assessment after studying the content of the educational program preparing individuals for admission to the institution of higher education;

– on a paid basis – according to the results of the interview which establishes the student’s level of proficiency in the language used in the educational process. The main aim of the interview is to make sure that the language proficiency level of a student is high enough to be able to study the content of the higher education program.

Admission of foreign citizens and stateless persons to the institution of higher education is carried out on the basis of an agreement for training a specialist getting higher education at the expense of the budget, an agreement for training a specialist on a paid basis, that is concluded by the institution of higher education with foreign citizens and stateless persons (with legal representatives of minor foreign citizens and stateless persons when they present documents confirming status of a legal representative of a minor foreign citizen or stateless person) or with representatives of foreign citizens and stateless persons acting under Power of Attorney certified by a notary or an authorized official, as well as a legal entity (individual entrepreneur, individual) paying tuition fees (if any). Additionally, an agreement, besides the requirements established by law, provides the responsibility of the parties for payment of expenses in case of deportation of a foreign citizen and a stateless person outside the Republic of Belarus.

In addition to documents drawn in a foreign language, translation of an agreement into Belarusian or Russian is also attached and certified by a notary.

HIGHER EDUCATION AT BSPU

Higher education is the level of basic training aimed at developing the student’s personality, his intellectual and creative abilities, enabling him to obtain specialized theoretical and practical knowledge. At the end of the training course the student gets a certification of a specialist with a higher education and a Master’s degree.

     In accordance with a special permission (license) to carry out educational activities, BSPU provides getting higher education in 79 specialties and 6 specializations. All the specialties have passed state accreditation (Certificate). Designing and implementation of educational programs of higher education are provided by 11 Faculties and 56 Departments.

     The system of training pedagogical staff at the university includes four / five-year training of specialists at the first stage of higher education with the possibility of continuing education in order to obtain the Master’s degree at the second stage of higher education (Master’s Degree Course). After obtaining a Master’s degree a graduate of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank has the right to continue his/her education doing PhD studies and then Doctorate studies.

     The training of students in the institution of higher education is organized in full-time and extramural (including distant education) forms of education. The terms of training depend on the complexity of the educational program and the form of education.

     The Ministry of Education is the main employer of graduates studying at the expense of the Republican budget. With the purpose of strengthening the practical orientation of training specialists in the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank, there are 41 affiliated branches of the Departments that provide the educational process and the organization of an internship for students in secondary schools, preschool and special education institutions.

     The university provides students with ample opportunities for self-improvement and advanced training. Students can get additional training at the Additional Education Center.

THE FIRST STAGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

      The first stage of higher education provides training for specialists who want to obtain higher education and who have fundamental and special knowledge and skills. At the end of the training course the student gets a certification of a specialist and is given a diploma of higher education, which grants him/her the right for employment according to the type of received qualifications in the order established by the legislation of the Republic of Belarus and the right for training on the Master’s Degree Course .

      BSPU implements educational programs of higher education of the first stage, providing certification of a specialist obtaining higher education, and educational programs of higher education of the first stage, providing the certification of a specialist obtaining higher education and integrated with educational programs of secondary special education in 61 specialties and 6 specializations.

     The terms of training at this stage range from 4 to 5 years. The terms of training on extramural form of education are extended for one more year.

CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION OF FOREIGN CITIZENS FOR TRAINING

BSPU is the leading pedagogical university of the Republic of Belarus. The growth index of the reputation of teacher education is a significant increase in the number of foreign students at the Belarusian State Pedagogical University.

The list of students of undergraduate department, undergraduates, postgraduates, trainees, students of Training and Retraining Department includes more than 500 foreign students from 15 countries (Republic of Azerbaijan, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Lithuania, Republic of Iraq, Russian Federation, Republic of Turkmenistan, etc.).

All foreign students are given places in the comfortable rooms of dormitories. Students have the opportunity to use the most modern campus facilities during their training: an extensive library of the university, reading rooms, a cafe, a dining room, gyms, a swimming pool.

Cultural and leisure activities of students have a great importance in the life of the university.  Such activities are provided by the student club “Junost” (the Center for Student Creativity of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University). The student club conducts active work on the aesthetic and spiritual and moral education of the youth of our university.

In order to receive an invitation to study in the Republic of Belarus, it is necessary to submit (via e-mail dfr@bspu.by or fax + 375 17 226 40 18; + 375 17 226 40 24) to the International Cooperation Office copies of the following documents:

– completed application form (dfr@bspu.by or fax + 375 17 226 40 18; + 375 17 226 40 24);

– a notarized copy of the certificate or other document of education;

– translation of the certificate or other document of education into Belarusian or Russian, certified by a notary;

– copy of a passport or other identification document

– translation of a passport or other document proving the identity into Belarusian or Russian, certified by a notary;

– a notarized copy of the medical report on the state of health issued by the official health authority of the country from which the candidate came to study.

PLEASE NOTE! Copies of all documents must be sealed with a notary seal, and all documents executed in a foreign language must be accompanied by their translation into Russian. The translation must be notarized.

For information of citizens of Turkmenistan! The right to enroll in a university have a person who graduated from 10 (11) classes in general education schools.

The International Cooperation Office sends an official invitation to the candidate for study, which allows you to obtain an educational visa at the consular institution of the Republic of Belarus at the place of residence of the candidate. Registration of the invitation for training is free of charge.

  1. Terms of acceptance of documents.

For admission to BSPU you need to submit your documents no later than:

October 15 – for admission to faculties;

November 1 – for admission to the preparatory department of the faculty of pre-university training;

During the year – for admission to the magistracy and postgraduate study.

  1. Conditions of enrollment.

Upon arrival in the Republic of Belarus, a foreign citizen needs:

  • Submit a package of documents to the admission committee of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University and pass the procedure of enrolling in the university:
  • application for admission to study with indication of the specialty (to be filled in when submitting documents to the admission committee);
  • the original of the certificate or other document of education;
  • the original medical assessment on the state of health, confirming the possibility to study in the climatic conditions of the Republic of Belarus, certified by the official health authorities of the country of residence;
  • a medical certificate of absence of HIV infection issued by the official health authority of the country of arrival of the candidate for study;
  • medical certificate on the state of health in the form established by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. The certificate must be obtained at the student polyclinic №33 in Minsk (on a paid basis);
  • a copy of the birth certificate certified in accordance with the established procedure;
  • 6 photos with a size of 3×4 cm;
  • certificate of completion a training at the faculty of pre-university preparation, preparatory department (if available);
  • a passport, or other identity document.

PLEASE NOTE! Copies of all documents must be sealed with a notary seal, and all documents executed in a foreign language must be accompanied by their translation into Russian. The translation must be notarized.

  • To pass the interview.
  • Conclude an agreement for training, pay for training (the cost of training is approved annually by the order of the rector of the BSPU).
  • Issue a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Belarus

PLEASE NOTE!

Upon arrival in the Republic of Belarus, a foreign citizen must submit to the International Cooperation Office the following documents within three days for the issue of a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Belarus:

  • passport with an educational visa;
  • migration card;
  • a copy of the passport;
  • 2 photos;
  • medical insurance;
  • receipt for payment of state duty for registration.

Stay of foreign citizens in the Republic of Belarus is regulated by special rules, for violation of which a foreign citizen can be subjected to an administrative penalty or deportation. Therefore, you should always have your identity documents with you.
